GameSpy Master Servers Shutdown - Workarounds for Daikatana
Effective May 31, 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy.
Daikatana is one of these games and is affected. That means, without GameSpy's master server it won't be possible to find any Daikatana multiplayer servers in the ingame browser (or any other browser).
Thankfully there's a workaround for that issue: Qtracker. Qtracker offers a GameSpy Master Emulation, that means it can now accept Gamespy-stytle beartbeats from game servers, and can also accept Gamespy-style server listings requests as used by the in-game browsers.
So how can you find Daikatana Multiplayer Servers after May 31, 2014?
Workarounds
Modification of HOSTS file on Windows
If you're running your Daikatana Client on Windows, you can find the HOST file at this path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS
Simply open the file "HOSTS" with Notepad or any other texteditor and add following line:
65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com
Save the file and start Daikatana. The ingame server browser should now find and list the Daikatana mulitplayer servers.
Modification of hosts file on Linux
If you're running your Daikatana Client on Linux, you can find the HOST file at this path:
/etc/hosts
Simply open the file "hosts" with Notepad or any other texteditor and add following line:
65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com
Save the file and start Daikatana. The ingame server browser should now find and list the Daikatana mulitplayer servers.
IMPORTANT FOR SERVER HOSTER & ADMINS:
You have to modify it the same way as you would do on the Daikatana Client PC as written above! That means either the HOSTS (Windows) or hosts (Linux) file modification.
